Shaped by Atlantic Breezes

TWO AUTHENTIC GRAPE TYPES

Located at the foot of the Caramulo and Buçaco hills and stretching to the cool Atlantic coast, Bairrada offers an exceptional terroir for sparkling wine grapes. The region’s mild, maritime climate and small vineyard plots thrive on two distinct soil types: clay-limestone and sandy. These soils leave their imprint on the flavour of the grapes, while the cool conditions ensure that Arinto and Bical consistently reach the perfect balance between sugar and acidity.

Arinto is known for its vibrant acidity and bright citrus notes, giving the wine structure and freshness. Bical, often called a “terroir magnet”, reflects the character of the soil with clarity, bringing a subtle salinity and depth that complete the blend’s harmonious profile.

Vibrant and Beautifully Expressive

SPARKLING ROSÉ WINE

Crafted from soft pressed Baga red grapes sourced from small, family-run vineyards, our Rosé Espumante offers lively, crisp, berry notes with a fine, persistent mousse, bringing freshness and lift to every table.
Elegant yet versatile, it pairs beautifully with shellfish, delicate appetizers, poultry, flaky fish, pork, and light cuts of red meat and desserts, adding energy and balance to even the simplest meal.

A Portuguese Original

THE VERSATILITY OF A GRAPE

If justice were done, Baga would stand alongside Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Nebbiolo among the world’s most celebrated grape varieties. Proudly Portuguese, it reveals two distinct expressions: when fully ripe, it yields rich, complex reds with firm tannins; when harvested early, it retains freshness and acidity, creating an elegant foundation for método clássico sparkling wines.

Mastering Baga demands skill and precision, knowing how to prune, train and harvest at just the right moment to avoid excess tannin while capturing the grape’s distinctive character.

Where Bold Meets Bubbled

SPARKLING BAGA BLANC DE NOIRS WINE

Crafted exclusively from the gently pressed red Baga grape, our Sparkling Baga Blanc de Noirs (I.G. Beira Atlântico) is a White Espumante Wine with a pale golden hue and remarkable delicacy. Native to Portugal’s Beira Atlântico region, Baga reveals its brighter side, offering vibrant acidity, delicate notes of red berries and brioche, and a firm yet elegant structure.

More textured than a blanc de blancs, pairs beautifully with delicate Mediterranean dishes based on fish and white meats; mild, non-spiced specialities from Indian, Chinese, and African cuisines; and egg-based desserts.

Baga as an Adolescent

AN EMERGING PERSONALITY

This sparkling wine captures Baga at a pivotal stage, as it transitions from youthful vibrancy to emerging maturity. It marries the bright freshness of youth with the first hints of ripeness and depth.

Its potential is evident in the wine’s defined structure, yet the fruit is carefully guided to ensure tannins remain in balance, allowing its character to shine. This is a wine that rewards close attention and is best appreciated with patience and care.

BEHIND THE BOTTLE

Every Amalia wine begins with intention: a specific parcel, a distinct grape variety, a clear vision. Using “método clássico”, we craft with precision: hand-harvesting, natural bottle fermentation, lees aging, and riddling by hand – to preserve purity and detail. And it all happens here, in the Bairrada region, where sparkling wine production is both a heritage and a passion.
